Project Description

Chuckanut Bay Distillery
Chuckanut Bay Distillery began in 2011, in Bellingham, Washington. The brainchild of Matt Howell and Kelly Andrews, it’s a partnership that has led to national and international spirits awards. In 2017, they engaged URBANADD to help develop the vision for their expansion into the historic J.C. Penney Company building in downtown Bellingham. With over half of the building renovated, it has already become a successful distillery, barrelhouse, and tasting room. Once the balance of the building is complete, the 18,000 square foot, 3-story facility will offer an expanded mezzanine-bar, full meeting and banquet facilities, and a roof deck and bar with views to Bellingham’s Chuckanut Bay and Puget Sound. Our collaboration has driven an aesthetic inspired by the industrial age, incorporating steel, heavy timber, and selective reuse within both the production and public spaces.
